An Old Fan Fic

This is a very old fan fic I wrote a number of years ago. I never completed it, but I'm comtemplating bringing it to life again and making it better now that I'm a bit older :P I'm just posting this to get a general idea of what people think of it... so please do read, and be patient, it's quite long ^_^ It keeps telling me my posts are too long, so I'll have to try and break them up a bit :/

Prologue

The Legend of Zelda
Search for Kolohint Island

“Look over there!” a young man with ragged brown, dirty clothes called out. He ran up to the ocean getting his old slip-on shoes wet. As he approached the waves a wooden raft floated towards him, it looked rough and broken as if it had been bashed about a bit, like a small child would throw his toy ship around in the bath. The wooden beams were extremely weathered, and the sail had snapped off from what was a probably strong wind

An older woman came after the man and helped him drag the raft onto the shore. The young man clambered onto the raft to see what was there. He fingered the gaps between the wooden beams to search for anything that might be there. As he did so, he cried out as he felt something grab hold of him. The peasant was pulled down and dragged to the edge of the raft where then a young boy clothed in green jumped up gasping for air.

The young boy crawled up to the sandy shore, and lay there breathing heavily dripping with water and getting covered in sand. He closed his eyes as the sun beamed down on him, making the sand very hot burning his sides. He began to toss and turn to cool down as the woman approached him from the side. She kneeled down next to him and tried to calm him down.

“Are you alright, young man?” she asked.
“Of course he’s not alright!” the man grumbled running up behind her. He leaned over him and lifted him up to sit down. As he did so he noticed who this young man actually was. He instantly drew away letting him fall flat on his back.
“What are you doing, Phillip?” the woman exclaimed. She rushed to the boy’s aid and sat him back up. Phillip stared at the boy and looked more closely at his clothes.
“Wait here, I’ll show you who he is,” Phillip ordered and he rushed into the hut, and searched the cabinet of books for something.
“What are you doing, you stupid man?” the woman screamed out. Phillip rushed out with a small book, and began looking through the pages for a certain page.
“Oh shut up, Georgia you fool – read this!” He shoved the book into her face glaring at her to read it. She turned away from Phillips beady eyes, and started reading the page, still keeping the boy up as he spurted out water and seaweed.

The further Georgia got down the page, the wider her eyes became and her mouth began to fall open. As she reached the last word she instantly shot up straight causing the boy to fall on the beach once again. Her and Phillip looked at the boy as he finally got himself up. He looked at them and bowed.
“Thank you for finding me and helping me to the shore, “ he said calmly. He smartened himself, straightening up his tunic and hat. He looked at them; feeling slightly embarrassed to their stares and began to wander off slowly, looking back at them. As he did so, they stared back not taking their eyes off him at all.

Chapter One
The Return of The Hero

As the sun began to set, the adolescent began to get closer to Hyrule castle where the Royal Family lived. The huge castle could be seen from almost any corner of the land. It lay on a huge hill and with its tall towers at each side it remained the highest peak in Hyrule. Before this though, the boy had to travel through the woods that lay around the town walls. The trees were thick, and he had not seen them before.

As he rose over to the top of a smaller hill, he finally could see the whole of the castle, but to his dismay the woods were even thicker than he first thought. It ran for at least a mile towards the castle and it was sure to be dark under the thick branches and leaves. He wandered down the other side of this steep hill and stopped at a riverside. The young boy looked at his ragged green clothes.

“Urgh, looks like I need a bit of a wash before I present myself to the King”, he smiled. He got closer to the water and cupped his hands as he dipped them into the cold, clear liquid. He shuddered at the icy water but threw it on his face anyway. The green grass at his side started to turn a dark blue as the sun disappeared over the horizon. The shadows of the trees and castle stretched along the vast Hyrule field, and formed the shape of a huge character with what looked like a crown to the boy. He gazed up into the night sky and watched the stars arrive and twinkle.

The kid lay back supporting himself with his hands and kept looking upwards into the dark blue sky. “Was it a dream?” he wondered to himself, “it felt so real” he carried on. The moon started to creep into the sky, which brightened things up a bit. The boy could see the trees more clearly in the distance and he decided to move on forward to the castle. He got himself up and cleared off the dust from his sleeves and tunic and washed his face once more with the water. The reflections rippled on the surface of the water as he swished his hands about. As it became clearer, he could see a dark figure standing behind him, bending over.

He leapt up and reached for his sword and shield, but they weren’t there! He looked around where he had sat but he couldn’t see them. “Who are you?” he said, trying to make out a face under the dark hooded person.
“You don’t remember me?” the man said. The kid recognised the voice, but couldn’t quite make out whom it was. “I believe you are looking for these,” he carried on. The man put his hands behind grabbing onto a sheath and a wooden shield. The man took off his hood, revealing he to be Phillip, the peasant that had saved him from the wreckage. Phillip handed over the equipment, and knelt down as if before a King.

The child withdrew his sword from the sheath and swung it about a bit, cutting the air. “Do not kneel before me, sir. I do not wish to be praised,” he said.
“Oh, but you are Link. Link, the Hero of Time, I owe everything to you for saving this peaceful land”, he stood back up and bowed. Link shook his head.
“Please, don’t think you owe me anything. Really, do not give up everything that I may have saved over me, that would seem a bit of a waste would it not?” he grinned. Phillip looked at him and smiled.
“As you wish”, he replied. “I shall go back to my wife now, and we will continue our work at the port. Farewell, Link”. The young man wandered off into the night and left Link with his old sword and battered wooden shield that had obviously seen a lot of action. He looked at his shield, “surely it must have been real”. He set off again to the woods, crossing the river over a bridge to the other side.

Link was looking forward to seeing Zelda again, as they had become good, close friends. Him and Zelda would have a lot to talk about over the coming weeks that excited him. With Ganon gone, Link could relax, and he always had a smile on his face going towards the woods, eve n though it didn’t look very appealing. As he got closer he could see the thick roots that had launched into the ground, creating a very strong hold. The trees were big, and the branches were as thick as a Goron’s body and probably just as strong.

He looked deep into the darkness, but all he could see was black and mist. Not one ray of light could penetrate through the bushy, bustling leaves and there wasn’t a sound coming from there at all; no birds or animals, just complete silence. As Link ventured into the black forest, he began to get consumed by the darkness and he could not see his hand in front of him, he turned around and the opening it seemed started to close in on him, to lock him inside. Suddenly noises began to appear, he heard a loud, low-pitched groan coming from the side of him. He looked around and then it was suddenly behind him, he kept swooping around until finally the noise was coming from every direction.

Link broke to the ground and covered his ears. He screamed out, “Stop it!” and then suddenly it was quiet. The noise had gone and the trees seemed to have stopped moving as much. And then in the midst, a light came through the trees. A little ball of blue-white light crept through the thick darkness and mist. “Hello?” it said, it was a fairy. Link shielded his eyes from the bright light he was not used to. The little fairy bobbed up and down beside Link and eyes him up.

“You’re the Hero aren’t you?” she asked. Link looked away and nodded. He thought that this was going to be a similar scene with that of Phillip and his mother. “That’s good. So, why are you here?” the fairy twinkled. Link lifted his head smiling and looked at her.
“It’s a very long story,” he sighed. The little fairy took his finger with her hand.
“My name is Ivan,” she giggled. “The trees do not like light, so I’ll help you through here, okay?”
Link lifted himself off the ground and brought Ivan up with him.
“Sure thing”, Link said searching around for a way to go. He turned around but there wasn’t anywhere to go, the glow of the fairy just showed more thick, gnarled roots and an endless labyrinth of trees. The fairy looked at Link and giggles.
“Don’t worry, I will show you the way. The trees will move away from light,” Ivan explained.

Link and Ivan both went deeper into the mesh of trees towards the castle, Link was relieved that this little fairy had found him. He kept looking around and holding onto this sword tightly in case anything might jump out and attack. Ivan looked behind her and saw Link seemed a little nervous. “Hee-hee, you’re very tight aren’t you. Don’t try to be, I shall keep the trees in order. But these trees are violent,” she frowned.
“Why are they even here?” he exclaimed waving his sword about. The trees began to growl and quiver, the leaves rattled and the branches cracked against one another. Ivan went closer to Link.
“These trees protect the castle…” she moved away a bit further and looked away.
“Protect it from what? Surely there isn’t any evil around these parts anymore,” he wondered. He was bemused, and his face showed it. He walked up to Ivan, “What is out there?” Ivan turned away.
“Nobody rightly knows. I think there is some evil across the see in an unknown land of which we have yet to find”.
“Kolohint…” Link said under his breath. Ivan looked at him strangely.
“What did you say?” she asked.
He shook his head, “It doesn’t matter – do not worry your little head, we shall move on and talk about it, okay?”

As the ventured further through it came to Link’s mind that if the evil is over the sea, why do they protect the caste with trees that live? He was just going to ask when a little imp-like creature appeared holding a mini lantern. The little imp smiled at the trees bearing its sharp teeth. It laughed at them, waving the lantern about. The gigantic trees began to sway and roar. Link stared at it thinking that his question may have just been answered, as a bigger monster appeared through the wall of branches. Link readied himself and withdrew his sword once more. “Ivan, I shall need you to come with me. Run!”
“Are you mad? These creatures are insane. The trees will defeat them.” Link looked at Ivan and reminded her who he was. Ivan instantly came by his side and they were off.

Link jumped into the middle of the two monsters, the little imp with his tiny little legs and arms charged at Link with his horns. And the other, a bit Ogre-like creature lunged towards him with his blade. Ivan tried to keep away as much as possible, but still give Link enough light to fight. As the imp came, Link got his shield out and the imp smacked into it, trapping his horns in the wood. The imp tried to break free while kicking Link in the thigh with its pointy, dainty feet. The ogre coming up behind Link swung his blade around madly towards the boy. Link went to shield it and the little imp panicked dropping the lantern on the floor.

The ogre slashed the imp, and its torso dropped to the floor. The ogre looked down at the head on the shield and became enraged. Ivan went to get the lantern and flew up high. Link fended off the ogre by slashing its knees and ankles. The ogre moaned and cried out with pain, raising the blade to its head. Ivan flew past and lobbed the lantern into the ogre’s face, it scolded its face and ashes flew into the eyes. It fell backwards dropping its blade beside Link. As Ivan flew away the light around the ogre gradually dimmed and the trees began to move near the ogre. There was a lot of bustling and the branches could be heard pummelling the body of the ogre. The ogre screamed and its bones were cracking under the pure strength of the all the trees. The hard-hitting sound of the body gradually went away, as it turned into more of a squelching sound until the trees came to a halt.

“I don’t think we want to go down there, eh?” Ivan stuttered. Link laughed a little bit,
“Okay, okay. You lead the way”. They both set off further into the woods as the darkness followed behind them. “So let me get this straight: you think that these beings are coming from across the sea, do you?” Ivan nodded.
“Uh huh, I sure do”. Link smiled at her.
“How do you think they actually get across the sea I wonder?”
“Pirates!” Ivan exclaimed. She flew up high and spread her wings. “Gerudo Pirates I reckon. They are not from around here, Gerudos haven’t been in Hyrule for hundreds of years but I think they may be returning.” Link understood her explanation but didn’t understand her reasons behind it.
“Why would they come and start attacking the castle with a few monsters?”
“Distraction maybe? No body knows anything about it. We are all rather confused about what is happening. It hasn’t been going on for long though, but it started just last week when an old woman was reported dead. She was found near the port to the south but there was no reason for her death other than her drowning. It was then later found out that this woman didn’t even seem to come from Hyrule at all! That baffled all of us. Some people think that maybe in desperation she had travelled from far away to get away from some terrible danger, but no one can be sure—anyway, we’re here now.”

Link looked forward and all he saw was more trees glowing blue under the light. Ivan approached the trees and they moved aside to reveal a huge doorway made of wood surrounded by stone slabs. Link’s eyes widened open at the sight of the door moving downwards into the ground revealing a dark, desolate town with many stalls and a number of dogs roaming the streets. “This is it, Link,” she hovered in, “Hyrule Market! You can see the castle from here over there, look.” She pointed past the main fountain in the area that was a statue of a young man with a sword and Hylian shield. His clothes were similar to what Link was wearing at the time and instantly Link recognised it to be the Hero of Time that first defeated Ganondorf with the legendary Master Sword he had also once used.

It has been told that The Hero of Time travelled through time to defeat Ganondorf’s evil and return peace to Hyrule with the help of Zelda and the ancient sages. He fought countless enemies and collected the medallions of the sages to return their power before he finally came to the battle with Ganondorf. After this he returned to his own time and was made a legend over the ages. But the hero did not stay long. He left the land of Hyrule for an unknown reason to the Hylians.

When darkness came back once again to the land the hero did not appear as foretold. No one knew where he was and they prayed to the Goddesses for help. This story though is another legend that not even the elders are too certain about. It was believed that Hyrule was flooded for eternity and that new land was found which is the world they live in now. No one who went through that lives anymore, and there were no recorded accounts of the event, so that itself is also a legend.

Link’s return would not be unknown for long, as a soldier who was patrolling the area came past as they approached the gate to the castle. His armour rattled and travelled clearly through the cold air, it echoed on the walls and they could hear him coming towards them. “Who goes there?” he cried. “Speak now,” the soldier ordered. Link stepped forward with Ivan at his side and he put his sword away along side his battered wooden shield that still had the imp’s head on it.

The soldier stopped suddenly and his clattering armour came to a halt. He stood up straight and brought his spear to his chest. “Link! The Hero has returned!” The soldier opened the gate to the castle pathway. The gate shrieked open and made Ivan jump. As Link and the fairy walked forward the soldier moved back, and then sprinted off shouting that Link had returned. The lights then started coming on in some of the houses, and the noise of gossip got louder, like the pouring rain getting constantly heavier. Link hastily ran off before anyone could see him, as he didn’t want a huge uproar to start.

He rushed up the path with Ivan floating behind, glowing ever bright. No body actually knew where Link had gone after defeating Ganon, so they were all eagerly anticipating an answer to that. He travelled up to the garden path and saw the entrance to the castle where the soldier was running to in the near distance. The garden was a small field, which was inhabited by very rare and beautiful flowers. The moonlight made the garden very mysterious and magical, the stream ran right down the middle as the castles water supply, which led down to the fountains also. The stars glittered in the water, and the moon rippled on the surface. Link could hear the crickets in the grass playing their legs and the bushes rustled in the breeze as the tall thin trees swayed side to side all the way up the stream. The path ran up the left hand side of the stream towards the castle.

Link and Ivan wandered up the path and finally reached the gate, where a number of soldiers marched out and stopped in a line, before separating into two lines on each side of the stone steps. The all brought their spears up and tapped them on the ground twice with a clanging sound. As they did this the wooden drawbridge dropped slowly to the ground above the moat that went around the castle. The wind began to get stronger and black clouds hovered above them in the sky as the King stepped out to the drawbridge and walked down the steps.

“Hullo Link,” he called out waving his hand. Link knelt down and lent on his sword. The King gestured him to rise to his feet.
“Good evening,” Link smiled. “Do you think maybe we could come inside? It is starting to rain after all”.
“Of course, please this way,” the King ordered the soldiers to close the gate and bring up the bridge as they all went inside to the castle hall. Link started walking a bit faster to catch up with the King and walk by his side. The King eyes Link as he wandered up near him. “Tell me Link, “ he stopped and turned around, “where have you been all this time? You didn’t tell anyone where you were going. We even had a whole world search for you. We were rather worried… well, I’ll tell you about that in the morning.” Link was confused, The King hadn’t finished his sentence, but he decided to wait, as he was extremely tired.

Link travelled up the long stairway to the bedroom, following one of the maids on the huge red carpet that covered the middle of the stairs all the way to the top. “You know,” the maid started, “I heard that when the hero returned again, yeah? That it was meant to be bad, you see. I don’t know why though, I am but a humble mad, you see. So don’t go believing what I say, yeah? I don’t mean to offend you, sir.” She rubbed her hands together, and inter-twined her fingers. Link thought that maybe this was what the King had to talk to him about the next day. From what the maid said he didn’t feel too good about being back home with all the monsters about, he assumed that there was worse to come when he put two and two together.

A few minutes later Link had finally reached his room where he’d be sleeping the night. Ivan soared up to his room and rested on his shoulder, yawning. “I’m very tired, Mr. Link” she giggled, waving her legs about in the air. Link laughed with her and headed into the room with the maid.
“Thank you,” he said waving her off. He sat on his bed as the maid closed the door and Link changed into his night gear that had been put out for him. Ivan stood on the balcony railings and watched the moon starting to set as the sun began to rise in the east. She rushed over to the other side of the room and through to the other balcony.
“Look, Link!” she squealed. Link walked over to the balcony and leant on the side. He smiled and looked out to the horizon as the sun seeped over the side of the horizon, spreading across the land like with its orange glow. He felt the warmth on his face and the sun reflected in his eyes as he watched it rise.

Link turned around and clapped his hands making Ivan jump. “Right!” he said, “off to bed!” Ivan thought it strange that he said this as the sun rises, but knew he was right. She hadn’t slept all night, as he hadn’t. Link climbed into bed, and Ivan slept on a little pillow that hung from the ceiling. The hero was very drained and tired and went to sleep almost straight away. Ivan rolled onto her front and leant on her hands and stared at Link for a little bit, smiling. She eventually drifted off quietly and her glow dimmed.

Link started out with a calm night sleep, he dreamt that he was sailing on his raft as the winds blew across the ocean to place he didn’t even know where. He lied back on the raft and let the sun warm him up as the salty water brushed up against him like a cool mist. The waves calmly bobbed him along and he felt very relaxed in the calm waters. As he closed his eyes to avoid the sun’s rays he suddenly felt a lot cooler. And a droplet of rain fell on his forehead and ran down the side of his face.

Link opened his eyes and a drop of rain went into this left eye making him wink. Dark clouds suddenly started taking over the blue sky, Link sat up and suddenly as the raft tilted over a bit. He grabbed hold of one of the ropes and tried to keep himself on, as the waves got stronger and higher. He stood up and grappled onto the staff in the middle of the raft to follow the movements of it.

Thunder and lightening began to rage the skies, and the rain lashed down harder as the winds blew faster. The oceans flashed as lightening roared across the clouds. Suddenly the atmosphere got very misty as the storm still raged. Link could now not see what was going on, all he could do was hear the storms and get thrashed about on the waves.

“Hey! Hello?” came a voice. “Wake up!”

Chapter Two
Link’s Awakening

“I can’t believe Hyrule rely on such a lazy boy. Why you’re the chosen one I really have no idea”, a little voice cheeped. Link sat up sweating; the bed covers were wet and stuck to his legs and chest. His hair was wet and he felt very hot. He shook his head and held it as he head a throbbing headache.

“I watched you,” the fairy said. “What did you dream about? You were moving about a lot, no wonder you’re so sweaty”. She flew down and sat on his knee. “What’s the matter, Link? Is there something you’re not telling me?” Ivan asked. She looked very serious in Link’s eyes, but he couldn’t tell her what happened, he thought she’d just laugh in his face.
“Come with me with the King and I shall talk about it over lunch. I’m famished, I could do with some food!” he cried. Link smiled and stood up getting some fresh clothes that must have been set out while he was asleep.

Link opened the door and looked around before he stepped out. He tiptoed out of the room with Ivan close behind jingling about. Link brought his forefinger to his lips and glared at her. Ivan tried hard not to jingle about like bells and slowly moved with Link to the top of the stairs. “I hope they don’t have some huge welcoming party or something,” Link joked. “I wouldn’t like that one bit, hehe.” Ivan rolled her eyes.
“You big head hee” she giggled turning her nose up. Ivan stooped up to the top of the banister and slid down the spiral stairs making her hair blow behind her and made a squeaky sound. Link slowly came down behind her taking one step at a time, looking around on the bottom floor to see if anyone was there.

Link finally reached the bottom and turned right towards the main hall. There was a huge set of stone steps going up the hall. At the middle of the stairs stood another stone statue of The Hero of Time. It was a lot bigger than the one in the market and the sword was made of marble. It stood atop a pedestal with more stairs leading down somewhere in front of it. The door lay on the pedestal itself, but it was tightly locked. Link carried on past the statue, but didn’t take his eyes off it until he reached the top of the steps and stood up in front of a huge wooden door.

He raised his hands and placed his palms onto the door, and pushed it as hard he could. Link walked in and instantly looked up and saw the magnificent chandeliers all made of gold. They hung low from the ceiling. The walls were covered with flags of the Hyrule nations and the windows were stained glass windows of the ancient sages of Hyrule. The sun shone through the glass lighting up the figures upon the glass and lit up the room with the glistening gold. In the middle lay a long wooden table with chairs around each side. The chairs were wooden, but had a golden rim and a cushion attached to the seat.

Link turned his head, and at he left side sat the King, and on the right hand side sat Zelda, the Princess of Hyrule. “Zelda!” Link cried. He ran up to her side and she smiled, waving at him.
“Hello, Link” she said. Her voice was smooth and high and made Link shiver after not hearing it for a long time. She took his hand and placed her other hand on top. “We were very worried about where you had gone” she frowned.
“Well, I have an explanation to that… but you may not entirely believe me”. Link looked on the floor and shuffled his feet.
Zelda lifted his head up. “Please share with us what you have been through, Link,” she smiled. Link grinned back and sat down. The King got a chair and moved up closer to listen to Link.

“It started after I had finally defeated Ganon and sealed him away. I decided to move away from here to train somewhere where I couldn’t be interrupted by all the public that would surely want my attention,” The King grinned.
“They sure do! Come now Link, we can listen to your story later,” he exclaimed. Link’s face dropped.
“But, I haven’t finished…”, Zelda looked angrily at her father.
“Did you not listen to what he just said, he doesn’t want any attention. The King walked towards the door and launched it open. He turned to face them and smiled.
“Do not worry young man, we have some things to give you. You deserve a hero’s welcome!” he shouted, laughing away down the hall. Link punched the table and made a gold goblet rattle to the floor. He forced himself up and dragged himself to the hall.

“This way!” the King cried. Link followed the King to the drawbridge that would lead out to the front gate where he expected everyone to be. As he past down the corridor he noticed paintings on either side of the walls. They were paintings of the Royal family of ages. Link didn’t know that there had been other princesses under the name of Zelda before, and wondered why they were all called that. Zelda came up behind him, lifting her skirt up down the stairs.
“There is a story to why we are all called Zelda, Link”, she explained. Link looked back at her. “But now is not the time to tell you that,” she smiled. “Let’s go have your ceremony!” Zelda grabbed Link’s hand and held onto it tight as the drawbridge flung open, and the sunlight suddenly flashed into their eyes. Link couldn’t see for a second, but all he heard was a loud roar of cheer from hundreds of people. As his eyes came to focus he saw a sea of people stretched all the way to the market gate leading out to Hyrule field. His draw dropped, and his legs and arms began to shake and feel like jelly.

Link began to sweat, and his hand slipped away from Zelda’s as she shook her hand disgustingly. She smiled though, and laughed at Link. She locked her arm with his and they walked down the steps side by side towards the market through the crowd of people. The King appeared from the side of them and moved ahead, the crowd moved to the side as he past but carried on looking at Link. The King stopped at the statue of the Hero and the soldiers halted in a line keeping the crowds back as Link passed through.

Link and Zelda stopped before the King and stood silent. “Young hero!” the King exclaimed, raising his hands in the air. “You alone have saved this land from the evil of what was Ganon. And kept the Triforce in safe hands once again, and that now lies in a very safe place indeed…” he continued, “now that you have returned to us, we must give you the welcome you deserved long ago before you left us. We hadn’t forgotten you Master Link – no matter what you wanted” he said quietly to himself smiling.

“So the time has come to show you what we have been working on for you the past few months”, he told the guards to move towards a big white cloth that was obviously hiding something underneath it and they grasped a side each. “This Link will be our remembrance of you and all that you have done.” The crowd fell silent and awaited what was under the blanket. From the signal the guards pulled at the cloth and it fell right off, revealing another statue made of stone, which stood near the one of the Hero of Time. This new statue took the form of Link, and inscribed on a plaque was, “This here is the memory of our valiant saviour, Link.”

Link had the strangest feeling that this would be where he’d be buried when he died, but he tried to shake that idea out of his head for now. He gazed over the crowd as they clapped and cheered, and gossiped to why he had come back. In the back of his mind Link still wondered as to why the maid said what she did. Could my return be a bad omen? He thought as he returned back to the castle. When they reached to the top of the steps he was stopped by the King.

“We can’t have you just going around in those cloths”, he said. “Maid! Get Link his armour!” he cried out. The crowd cheered and Link was in a state of shock as his arms just flopped, and his mouth dropped open. His legs wobbled but he was very excited about getting armour. He had to stop himself from jumping up and down with excitement as the maid appeared in front of him. It just looked like a load of armour with legs paddling about, the King retrieved the armour and the maid emerged and wobbled off holding her back.

For the first time Link actually had his own armour. It was silver in colour and had gold patterns on the chest plate with chain mail underneath which was very light but strong. Link also had a metal helmet to put on instead of his old hat, but he still preferred his hat, as it just seemed a part of him. He wore the helmet for now, which was the shape of an egg with no base, and it had gold streaks up each side and at the back. Link shone in the sunlight and everyone carried on talking and cheering. The armour was special Hylian armour that wore the Hylian crest of a red eagle and a small triforce was imprinted on each wrist plate.

The King whispered to another maid and her eyes opened wide as she scuttled off inside. Link saw this, and wondered what was going to happen next. “Link!” The King cried. The crowd fell silent and stared at them with their beady eyes. “Link, we cannot let you go without a proper sword and shield now, can we?” he beamed. The maid came back outside with a big tray covered in a white cloth. She took it over to Link and the King pulled of the sheet to reveal a sword and a shield. But these were no ordinary weapons. The sword was not the Master Sword, but a sword that had once been used by the Hero of Time himself, called the Gilded Sword. And the shield was the legendary Mirror Shield that the Hero of Time used to fend off Ganon’s minions, Twinrova.

The Master Sword was once used by Link in his first adventure in Hyrule after collecting the three pendants he wielded the Master Sword which made him The Hero. The legend is that the Sword was once the key to the sacred realm that the Triforce lay, and that The Hero of Time used this blade to travel back and forth through time. The first time The Hero pulled the sword out of its pedestal though; Ganondorf took advantage of this and entered the sacred realm while The Hero was sealed away for seven years until he was old enough to use this legendary blade.

Over the seven years Ganondorf took over and brought Hyrule to its knees, engulfing the land in darkness, plaguing every land with monsters. Each Temple of a Sage had been taken over by monsters and the sages were trapped inside, this is when The Hero finally came back and saved them all, releasing their power. This is what was written in the Book of Mudora at least, and is considered a legend.

The Book of Mudora is what Hyrule’s events are recorded in, but no one knows for sure if what it reads is true. Most people do believe the stories that it tells, and homage is given to the Hero of Time that is mentioned within its pages, this is where the legend comes from.

Ivan watched over the whole thing from a balcony window, and smiled to see Link get what he deserved. She flew out of the room and across the hallway down the stairs to finally see Link coming in with all his new equipment. She sprung out her arms and hugged his arm that was warm from the sun’s rays. “Oh Link,” she said, “you look like a real hero now!” she sniggered. Then behind Link, Zelda came in smiling and waving to the crowd behind her. The drawbridge raised as the King carried on talking to the public with his loud, booming voice.

His voice became muffled once the door had closed and Zelda turned around towards Link, and stared at him in the eyes. Link felt a bit uncomfortable about it and tried to turn away. Zelda sighed, “do not turn away from me, young man” she giggled. Link turned his head back around only to find Zelda right up to his face. She rubbed her nose against his and pouted her lips close to his.

Link didn’t know what to do, but Ivan had ideas of her own. She pulled Link away as hard as she could, but Link wanted to kiss Zelda really but he was just very shy and bashful with a bright red face. Zelda opened her eyes to find Link falling back towards the ground. She frowned, “Fine,” she turned away and walked up to her room, sulking. Link waved Ivan away.
“What did you do that for?” he shouted. Ivan looked down at her feet, trying to think of an answer.
“Well, um…” she went, her face went red and she tried not to laugh. Ivan then bobbed up and down and flew upstairs to the bedroom. Link was baffled and decided he couldn’t be bothered to try and get an answer out of a stubborn fairy.

“If you want to Link, we can go to the market place later and have a little look round,” Zelda said looking down at him from the upper floor. Link looked up and around for her, he spotted her and grinned.
“Okay”, he replied. Zelda walked back to her room and closed the door quietly as Link was left alone in the big hallway wondering what to do next. He sat down on the steps next to the statue and looked at the first Hero. He thought to himself why he was the chosen one, he was no one special at first just an ordinary boy living an ordinary life with his uncle.

He’d never forget his uncle. Every day whenever he’d look up in the sky he would think about what Ganon did to him through Agahnim the wizard. He remembered very vividly as he approached him in the castle to answer Zelda’s call. It was raining outside and monsters roamed the castle. Link snuck in around the enemies as he had no weapons and was inexperienced anyway. He finally found his uncle being attacked by the evil wizard and he killed him with his magic. Link tried to attack him afterwards but it was no use, he was too strong.

It made him wonder if the first Hero had to go through anything as hard as he did like that. There was also the legend of a second hero that never seemed to be spoken of much. He didn’t know why though, it was said that he and some pirates were the founders of new Hyrule, but no one knows anything about it. There is but little evidence of this but isn’t considered to be a myth. This Hero was of the legend when Hyrule was flooded after Ganon had come back but the Hero of the first legend did not.

The Goddesses flooded the land with torrential rain and flooded all of Hyrule and the Master Sword sealed Hyrule in time and also Ganon’s powers. The Hylians departed to the highest mountains to live and huge oceans surrounded them. It was customary for the boys born to wear green clothing similar to the hero when they came of age in the hope that they will have courage like he did.

On one Island a boy was born who would be the saviour of this land. It was believed that Ganon needed Zelda to regain his full strength. As he tried to kidnap her descendant though, he mistook the boy’s sister and kidnapped her instead. The boy then started his adventure to find his sister that then led him into deeper waters. The spiritual stones had been reformed as the Goddesses Orbs (which were later recreated as the Pendants that Link had to find) and he had to collect them to find the Master Sword as he was believed by the King to be the descendant of the Hero of Time.

Unfortunately, the rest of this story is unknown, but all they know is that he did succeed as Ganon was once again sealed away under the depths of New Hyrule. As the new Hero, Link did not forget this story as he thought it just as important as the first Hero’s tale. Link staggered up under the weight of the armour he wasn’t used to and leant on the pedestal. He looked down at the doorway upon it and wondered what was inside.

Link was just about to creep down there, but was blown away by some force field and he was thrown into on of the pillars. “I wouldn’t do that young man,” came a familiar voice. A little man in a cloak appeared from the shadows. Link looked around where the voice was coming from.
“Sahasrala!” he exclaimed. The old man laughed and opened his arms as Link hugged him. Sahasrala had helped Link in his adventure in finding the Pendants of Courage, Power and Wisdom. He was the one that put them into these massive temples for safety.

They both walked into the back garden, which was almost double the size of the courtyard and had a big fountain in the middle with a statue of the second Hero, The Hero of the Winds he was known as. It was told that to cross the vast oceans he had been blessed with the ancient Wind Waker to control the winds. This instrument though had never been found, and was merely words in the Book.

They stopped at the fountain and Link sat down on the small stonewalls surrounding it, kicking the air. Sahasrala stooped down and leant on his walking stick. “So, Link”, he said. “Where have you been all this time? I haven’t heard anything about that, I must say I am confused”. Link started splashing the water about and watching his reflection ripple in the water.
“I tried to explain to the King earlier, but I was interrupted by the ceremony,” he said. “If I tell you, you can tell the King sometime, he’ll listen to you I think”. Link enthused towards Sahasrala.

“It started when I left Hyrule to do some training on another island across the sea. I found a little island and did some training on there for a few weeks but I started running out of food, and there wasn’t much to hunt for. I concluded that I’d finished my training anyway, so I decided to come back to Hyrule to settle down now that everything was peaceful.” Sahasrala listened to every word Link said carefully.

“On the way back though I started drifting off to sleep until it suddenly began to rain and in a matter of minutes a storm had arisen. The winds started to blow and it began to get misty as I was being tossed about on the ocean. After that everything was amiss, I blacked out and when I finally woke up I was on an island, which at first I thought was Hyrule. But then this girl came up to me and came to my aid.

“Her name was Marin and her father Tarin. I’d lost my equipment and I had to go find it all. As I went searching for them I met a strange owl that told me to wake the Wind Fish that was encased in a huge egg on top of a tall mountain on the island. But as everything, it wasn’t as straight forward as it seemed.” Sahasrala didn’t know if he should believe him or not, nothing had been heard of such an Island before.

Link carried on, “I had to collect eight instruments of the Sirens. At first I didn’t have a clue what I had to do, but the clues were there and I finally collected them all up. I climbed to the top of the mountain and broke the egg that let me go inside. But I was in for a shock when I got there. The Wind Fish was not visible but there was this huge, weird monster that I had to fight and kill until I finally met the Wind Fish. The Wind Fish sent me on my way, but I don’t know what happened after that…” Sahasrala looked at him lifting up his right eyebrow.

“I just ended up on my broken raft here…” he drifted off into deep thought and questioned himself if the Island was real or not.
“Okay… so what was the name of this Island, Link?” Link looked up at him, he knew he didn’t believe him.
“Kolohint Island”, Link stuttered. Sahasrala started walking away from Link into the castle.
“I shall tell the King of your adventure, but I don’t know what he’ll think. It does seem very farfetched. Maybe it was just a dream Link”. This is what Link thought, but he didn’t say so thinking that this would make it final. He just kindly nodded and Sahasrala opened the small door to the hall of the castle. The door slammed shut as the wind was starting to pick up.

“I believe you,” came a voice from behind him. It was Zelda walking from behind the statue. She pulled up her dress a bit to sit next to him on the wall.
“So do I!” came a squeaky voice. Ivan swept through the sky from one of the above windows. “Just because you have no ground-breaking evidence, doesn’t mean it isn’t real” she smirked. Zelda smiled at Ivan as she floated down. She put her arm around Link and brought him closer to her, kissing him on the cheek. Link looked at her eyes and smiled.
“I think…” Link started. “I think we need to go find this island”. Link launched up onto his feet. Zelda pulled him back down.
“Don’t go having crazy ideas, Link!” she shouted. We can’t just leave for the ocean without any preparation,” she turned her head away, “besides, my father would not allow it!” she promptly turned back to Link and laid her hands on the wall and stared at Link.
“Come on, Link. Let’s get you into some proper clothes”.
“I’m game!” Zelda exclaimed. They both grabbed Link and pulled him into the hallway.

The King watched them pulling Link up the stairs and laughed. Crazy teens he thought to himself. He walked off into the dining room laughing. The door shut with a loud boom that echoed in the hall, and Link’s door slammed shut as Zelda pushed him onto his bed. Link bounced on his bed and fell over the other side. He tried to get up but Zelda leaped on him and Ivan pulled off his helmet.

Zelda got some clothes out of the cupboard and Ivan started taking off his armour. “What are you two doing?” he bellowed.
“Oh come on Link,” Zelda said. “It’s not like you don’t like it”, Zelda looked at Link and winked. Link just stared at her in amazement and grinned back. Zelda passed Link a blue thin long-sleeved t-shirt and some brown pull on trousers.
“Here Link,” Ivan flew over to him carrying Link’s worn out, green hat. He took It from her and pulled it over his face to his head. He placed his new sword and shield on his bed and they all left the room.

“You two wait downstairs, I’ll get changed into some more casual clothes and then we can go to the market before it closes, okay?” Zelda said. Link and Ivan both nodded and Link walked down with Ivan on his shoulder. Zelda hovered into her bedroom and closed the door; a maid followed her in to help her out. The Hero stopped at the front door with Ivan and awaited Zelda’s arrival. Link seriously began thinking about an expedition to find that island he’d been to, but he knew he couldn’t go alone this time and he needed a ship.

Link’s thoughts were interrupted as Zelda got to the bottom of the stairs. She now wore a blue t-shirt and a purple thin jacket on top, but with a dress underneath. Her hair was down, and it flew behind her, light as a feather. Link ordered the drawbridge to be opened and so it did. It boomed on the other side of the moat, and the chains rattled at the side. The sun was coming to nearly setting so Link and Zelda ran to the market down the courtyard with Ivan close behind.

They reached the market that seemed quite dark as the towers at the side shadowed the area at the Sun’s point in the sky. Many stalls were packing away, but some stayed open especially for the Princess and Hero. The clouds began to come together and it got darker as the night drew near.

Zelda and Link just looked around the market place, which has changed a lot since Link was last there. He stopped at a man’s stall that was selling different kinds of fruit. The man came up to the counters. “Hello there, good evening”, he smiled. Link looked up at him and smiled.
“Can I have one of the apples, please”, Link asked pointing out a particular one. The man rushed to the side where the apples were and promptly picked up the apple, and handed it to Link.
“That’ll be five rupees please,” the man put out his hand and Link placed a blue diamond shaped rupee into his hand. The Hylian currency is called rupee. They come in different colours and sizes to determine their worth. Green rupees are one; blue are five; gold are ten; red are twenty; purple are fifty; silver is one hundred and orange is two hundred but these aren’t used as often.

Link moved to the side and leant on the wall to eat his apple. He looked round the side behind the fruit stand and saw a young boy, a teenager around his age coming from the back. He took some fruit off his father as they packed away their stall. “Hey”, Link called. The young boy came out again and saw the hero. He looked around.
“Are you talking to me?” he gasped. Link nodded and walked over to him.
“You like it round here?” he asked, casually. The boy shrugged and placed his hand to the back of his neck.
“It’s okay I guess. But after reading all the stories of you, I’ve always wanted to go out on some adventure!” he exclaimed. His father gave him more fruit to put away; he excused himself and went to the back again.
“What’s your name?” Link shouted. He heard a faint muffle through the wall. The boy walked through wiping water off his hands.
“My name is Ralph”, he said. He placed the cloth on the counter and grabbed hold of the top of the stall. “Anyway, I have to go now”, he smiled. “Nice to meet you though, Link”. Ralph closed the stall and the market suddenly seemed very desolate and quiet.

Zelda walked up beside him, “Let’s go back to the castle now”. She held Link’s hand and pulled him away. Link kept his eyes on the fruit stall and thought hard about that boy as he was dragged away by Zelda towards the courtyard. They reached the gate and the guard opened it for them and they passed through.

As they crossed the yard Zelda thought that this was a very romantic setting and kept eyeing Link up. The sound of the water spraying from the fountain and the crickets was very relaxing. The fireflies glowed in the night, and the moon crept through the clouds to lighten up the garden and make the water look like silver as it glistened. Zelda brought her head up to Link’s chin and gently rubbed his neck. Link took a deep breath and his stomach felt very light and tingly.

Zelda led Link over to the fountain and sat him down next to her. Although Ivan did not particularly like the sight of them two together, she knew it was her time to leave, so she departed up to the room through the window. Zelda moved her leg towards him slowly and touched his foot with hers. She gradually, and gently motioned her leg up and down his ankle. Link didn’t know what to do, this had never happened to him before, but he decided to return the favour and lifted his leg up and over to hers.

The water vapour sprayed over them, and they began to get slightly wet. The droplets shone and made the two adolescents glisten, as they gradually got closer together. Link moved his face closer to Zelda’s until their eyes finally met. Even Link thought that him and her were going to kiss. Their noses touched, Link grinned and began to laugh a little bit, backing himself away. He moved in again.

“Call the guards!” came a voice from the north tower.

I would like to say at this point before I post the other 4 Chapters later on, that I wasn't all too familiar with the timeline theory and how each game interacts with one another, so the story line is pretty messed up in terms of its history. But anyway, I hope you can look through that and maybe I'll make another one that's a bit better ^^
