My theory is that Zant did give Ganondorf the final blow. Here is how he did it. Ish.
Okay, so we know Ganondorf went to Zant in his "God" form, and used Zant's power. The only reason Ganondorf would want Zant was because Zant could do something for Ganondorf. Note that, although Ganondorf appeared to Zant in his "God" form, he appears later in his "Gerudo" form. I suggest that Ganondorf has housed his power in Zant (as he stated), so that he could revive himself. (This also suggests that Ganondorf has become immortal).
Now, after Zant died, he said his God would revive him without fail, suggesting that he had similar abilities to Ganondorf. Considering ol' Ganny said he housed his abilites in Zant, this is logical.
So, we have two, immortal, almost God-like characters who are both evil. HOWEVER!
When Zant did the neck-snappy thing, who did he do it to? To me, it looks like himself. Zant committed suicide. At this moment, Ganondorf also dies - suggesting that Ganondorf was still relying on Zant to live in his physical form.
