I wouldn't say it mimics family guy at all, both shows have always had pop-culture references. I just think they started running out of plot ideas and "jumped the shark," so to speak, reaching a climax that they couldn't hit again and tried to make the show "randomer" and "zanier" to hit their previous glory. Regardless, as much as simpsons and family guy fans hate to admit it, at it's core both shows are virtually the same genre and humor style, so I disagree when you say that simpsons got worse because it started "imitating family guy."

My opinion of the Simpsons has improved from watching the Simpsons movie. It is hillariously funny - no matter the style of humour used. The success of the Simpsons is setting it further apart from Futurama.
