Very first memories of Zelda

I thought it would be fun to share some of those very first memories of Zelda.

I was about 9 years old (1988). Our family just got the NES. I was at a friends house and they were playing the Legend of Zelda. At a quick glance, I thought the game looked boring. All I remember is Link walking around in the overworld stabbing enemies. It wasn't the fast-paced Mario action that I was used to. I quickly formed an opinion that I didn't like Zelda.

I remember some guy coming over to our house to build a deck for us. He noticed our NES, and the Nintendo Power issue sitting on the floor with SMB2 on the cover. He opened it up, saw the Zelda map, and was blown away. He just sat there reading about all the little secrets and hidden caves and was filled with excitement. I remember thinking that he must have been weird to like a dumb game like that.

Fortunately, my mom didn't hear me mention anything about it. The following birthday, I got Zelda. My mom said the salesman at the store HIGHLY recommended it. One of my friends was at my house that day, and he got me started on the game. It quickly became my favorite game.

What does that have to do with anything?

Anyway, I can't remember anything farther back than OoT.

I never actually completely played a Zelda game until, oh, the 6th/7th grade (I'm in 10th now. Ha). Or that's when I can remember for sure. When OoT came out, my older brother and his friends would always play while his younger sister and I would watch. I loved watching them play but her not so much. Haha. I always asked to play but they would say no because I'd 'mess everything up', or, 'I didn't know how to properly'. So I'd start up the N64 without him knowing and just play around. I never actually played along with the storyline, but more like... make up my own? I always found it fun to ride Epona everywhere and visit the fairy fountains making up a story in my mind. I knew some of the storyline from watching my brother and his friends play, but I changed it around and filled in the blanks with my own. Same with Majora's Mask.

Haha, I was like 5 so... xD

And then it wasn't until 6/7th grade that I actually made a file and played the whole game.

I started my Zelda playing with Twilight Princess, yes, I could be called a fakerto being an everfan. The one memory that realy sticks out was the ending. Since I never played(hiss) Final...Fan.you get it,it was the first time I cried. I love Midna, and that day, I swore that I would try to play AND beat EVERY Zelda game out there(not including the bastard kids that are the CD-i games)
